A Promised Land

作品簡介：

"亞亞你去高雄了。邱毫想要你回來,你能回來嗎?"

一切都從島嶼東岸廢棄南溪國小斑駁的牆上塗鴉文字開始，被文字封印住的部落記憶隨著時光慢慢在消逝，在非理所當然的環境中求生，伴隨的是出走的勇氣、更是留守家園的志氣。位處邊緣，才清楚距離遠比想像中來的遠，若猶太人通過上帝的考驗，獲許一塊牛奶與蜜的土地；而我們現今的人類，是否能通過層層的考驗尋得一片心安理得的田園?

InTW連續兩年於臺東的演出以及駐村期間，重新認識東岸島嶼上的人們，強烈感受來自大自然的風雨氣息、以及不同物種生命之間的羈絆與相依。在短居期間感受到偏鄉人口大量流失、青年返鄉創業不易、又肩負部落傳統文化傳承、以及外來資金資源強力開發等等問題，但依舊有部落青年在外地成長後，選擇返鄉經營與承接；或是外地者帶著永續理想生活方式、或回歸人本社群交流者，來到東岸過著「非理所當然」的生活。舞動的身體怎麼呼應這些想望，我們企圖以身體影像的方式，記錄下既稍縱即逝又曠日持久的感受。

It all starts with the graffiti on the dilapidated wall of Nanci Elementary School on the east coast of the island. The tribal memories sealed by the words slowly fade away with time. Surviving in an environment that is anything but ideal requires the courage to leave as well as the determination to stay at homeland. Being on the edge makes it clear that the distance is much farther than imagined. If the Jews were granted a land flowing with milk and honey after passing God's test, can we, as modern humans, find a fertile and peaceful land through layers of trials?

In the past two years, during performances and residencies in Taitung, Taiwan, we have reconnected with the people on the east coast of island. We strongly felt the breath, the bonds and interdependence between different species of nature. During our short stay, we experienced the significant loss of rural population, the challenges faced by young people returning to start businesses, the responsibility of preserving tribal traditional culture, and the strong development pressure from external financial resources. Despite these issues, there are still young people from the tribe who choose to return and take over after growing up elsewhere. Some outsiders bring sustainable ideal lifestyle, while others return for community interaction, living an "unconventional" life on the east coast. How can the dancing body respond to these aspirations? We attempt to capture these fleeting yet enduring feelings through the imagery of the body.
